Our June event will feature two presentations – looking at the practical applications of BIM and the use of cross-laminated timber

Presentation One: Our first speaker will be Jason Whittall, an award-winning BIM specialist at One Creative Environments. Jason has written articles on BIM, presented at numerous BIM conferences and led the transition into a BIM workflow within a multidisciplinary practice encompassing all major design disciplines, achieving BRE BIM Level 2 certification.  Jason is Chairman for the West Midlands BIM Regions, part of the UK BIM Alliance.

Jason will present case studies on the practical applications of BIM, demonstrating how virtual mock-ups can be cheaper, faster and more accurate than physical prototypes. He will also show the outcome of an R&D project that One Creative Environments undertook with BESA, using the SFG20 codes within BIM, to allow usable PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) schedules to be driven directly from a model – this process provides the opportunity for a valuable handover deliverable to clients, almost as a ‘by-product’ of the BIM process.

Presentation Two: The second speaker will be Andy Goodwin, Managing Director of B&K Structures, talking about the use of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). Adopting a hands-on approach, Andy has overseen the transition of B&K structures from a structural steelwork fabricator into the industry-leading sustainable frame contractor they are today. Andy’s presentation will cover a range of topics including an introduction to CLT, current CLT sectors, the role of BIM in CLT modelling, designing and managing for durability and the current and future landscape of the CLT market.
